Garden Guardian

Soft pastels on Uart 600 sanded paper

I love tree frogs! Their grippy feet are so cute. And this, a Grey Tree Frog, has stunning yellow patches on the inside of his back legs.

The reference photo for this painting was taken one morning while I was watering my garden. This little fella posed for quite a while. I just loved the lighting and how the color from the bales was reflected in the frogs skin. Couldn’t get a good shot of those colorful, long back legs though. Maybe next time?

All my art holds a special place in my heart. This one though is going to be at the top for a while because it represents some amazing firsts.  I painted it as the demo for my first pastel class. It’s the first painting that was sold before it was done, and it was collected by one of my first students. That’s a pretty amazing set of firsts!

Here it is all framed up and ready to hang!
