WARNING: this post may give you the desire to buy all the vintage postage and send letters all over the world. But hey! There are worse things no? Oh! And there’s a freebie or two at the end of this post… too. 😉
February is International Correspondence Writing Month (InCoWriMo). It’s vintage social media y’all! People all over the world try to send a letter out every day. This is my second year to participate. Last year was THAT much fun! I’ve been writing to a few pen friends consistently since last February too. Is “pen-versary” a thing? Never thought I was the type but combine it with art and I guess that’s my hook. You’re surprised, right? (yeah, me neither)
If a full blown letter isn’t you’re thing, postcards are okay too. It doesn’t have to be a crazy envelope like the ones in this post. It could be plain and simple. The point is to send a letter because everyone loves mail, right? Okay, unless it’s a bill or something but that’s not what we’re talking about. We’re talking happy mail!
It’s also about communication and connection. Just like art! Which is why I’ve combined the two this year. They’re like two sides of the same coin.
But that’s totally an option. You could just send a letter or a picture. Though you might want to send a few words with the picture. 😉 At least for the first letter to your new pen friend. After that y’all be on the same page, right?
Have I convinced you?
Don’t know anyone you can send to? No problem! Go to the official website, there you can find people who want a letter from you. And if you’re comfy with it, leave your address for others. If you’re on instagram, put the word out in your story or feed that you’re looking to exchange a letter for InCoWriMo (hash tag it with incowrimo to boost the signal) Then write your letter a day (kinda like taking a vitamin, it’s good for you) and stalk your post person… I mean keep checking your box. It will take a bit but they’ll start coming! Oh hey, check out Letter writer’s Alliance too. You know, in case you want more pen friends or you want to know that you’re not the only one who wants to write letters. 😉 And buy vintage postage, don’t forget that. 😉
So now you got people to send to, postage to slap on… wait… but no time go get a card or matching envelope? Don’t worry! I got something for you. How about a downloadable, card and matching envelope!
Yes, that envelope will get through! I’ve sent it within the US and internationally with no problems. I put the return address on the back, and the to address in the acorn. Cute, hey? They’re from my sketchbook.
Oh hey! If you want another card and envelope, sign up for my quarterly newsletter. Then, check out the archives. The most recent issue went out Friday and contained a link to different card and envelope!
And at the risk of being too sales-y (hey, an artist’s gotta eat too). Check out my Patreon page: at the second tier you get a monthly card download and the third tier gets you that AND a monthly card download. Soooo, if you signed up to support my art not only would you get my unending thanks, you’d have quite a few more cards you could send out. 😉 OKay, off my soapy-sales-box
Now, go connect and communicate! And come back next week for another download. 😀
